Sensata Technology has pulled the plug on their Magnum Inverter product line.

That's interesting  Looks like Victron going forward....

Ironically I had bought a new Magnum inverter and decided to return it in favor of Victron!

I installed a Xantrex Freedom 9 years ago. They replaced a board under warranty soon after purchase and it’s been trouble free since. I’m adding a Growatt 6k. Hopefully it will be as dependable.

I have 2 magnum 4k inverters that came out of the bus that I replaced with victron which I am not happy with, they do the job but will not prioritize solar unless you unplug the shore power or pull a rabbit out of your hat on the software end. I will argue the point with anyone who has victron and hope and pray someone can prove me wrong. I wish I would have put in a growatt like in the Newell.

Jack, that's interesting. Victron claims their inverters will work with their other chargers: solar, DC-DC, etc.
Have you tried contacting either Victron support or try this (old email): justin@baymarinesupply.com
He has helped me in the past but that was a few years ago so may not be there any longer.
I've used Victron on other coaches and just installed their solar, DC-DC, and 30 amp smart charger. Haven't had the time yet to make sure they're all working together since it's still in storage.

Forrest we have 2 multiples II configured split phase, 2 250/60 mppt solar chargers victron smart buss and cerbo with touch screen and 4000w of solar but if your plugged into the grid on a sunny day it will not utilize the solar so if your in a campground that charges for electric your screwed. I've been on DIY solar forum and followed people like us have tried everything to get the system to turn off the grid when the sun is out and you sort of can do it with a virtual switch but NOT effectively and also selecting inverter only which will force the system off the grid but if you forget to turn it back on you'll run your batteries down. Growatt is simple all in one and will use solar first as long as the sun is out.

Thank you for the email address!

Hello Jack,
How does the Growatt do in the mobile environment?

Although I have generally sized my system of 2 Victon Quatto's for off grid use, couldnt you change the system setup process a little bit to reduce the max line current you pull from grid 24/7?

In operation, lets just say you use 2500W average all day long.  If you programmed your grid to only deliver a maximum of 1500W, you could cycle your battery a little bit, use your solar to charge your battery during the day and drained it during the night down to some reasonable level where you could then take in the solar power during the day.

If you error on the side where you charge your batteries to full before the end of the solar day you could take in maximum production.

Does this balance sound reasonable?

RE: Magnum inverters no longer - BusNit - 03-03-2025

I'll jump in and agree with all the statements said. I will also agree with Glen regarding lowering the shore power consumption to the 13.5a. It will then use some sun during the day but if you are running a ton of AC like I used to do, the rate of charge at night won't be enough to keep the battery charged unless you have a large battery bank. I had 600a and 30kw. Should have doubled it for AZ or other hot climate living.

In my defense of Victron, I keep holding out that they will do a software update that will allow you to prioritize solar. Surprised they currently do not.
