Tom,
What happened to mine was that nut that holds the parking brake housing came off. So when I pushed or pulled on the yellow knob the entire mechanism would move and I counldn't engage or disengage the parking brake.
My friend Pete and I worked for about 2 hours trying to get the nut started on the shaft. Finally, we had to grind down the 1/4" bracket that the parking brake mechanism shaft mounts thru. He used a drommel tool to grind it down so that we could start the nut on the threads.
Finally got it.
