            Coach 1482 Automatic Water Fill float switch has failed twice in a year, it is currently sticking ON intermittently.  It is a Madison M8700 Float Switch which is a magnet actuated reed switch.  It is rated at 24VDC 1 Amp, they don't show the 12VDC rating.  The water valve is a 12VDC 11.6 Watt ASCO 8210G009 Red Hat.  Anyone else experiencing this failure?  I'm considering adding a relay unless there is a better option.

I rebuilt the Red Hat valve & discovered an "O" ring stuck in the inlet side of the valve.  It showed evidence of being there for a long time but didn't seem to affect the operation.

I finally got back to this problem and added a Hella Delay Relay 5HE996.152.15 to the Auto Water Fill.  I'm starting with a 10 second delay, it seems to have cured the problem of the water tank Madison M8700 float switch turning the Asco Red Hat fill valve on & off rapidly due to sloshing when the tank is nearly full.  That seems to cause the Madison M8700 float reed switch contacts to burn out as well as adding a lot of wear on the Asco Red Hat fill valve.  It also caused the tank to overfill. Now when the Madison M8700 float valve switches off and the sloshing causes it to switch on, the Hella delay relay adds another 10 seconds before it turns the Asco Red Hat water valve on.  Since the sloshing keeps cycling the switch, the delay relay won't turn the water valve on again until the water calms down, sometimes 60-90 seconds later.

I have been using the water autofill, the delay timer has been working great.

Another approach some folks may want to take is to set the Silverleaf to shut off the Autofill at something less than 100%, perhaps 90-95%. That would resolve the sloshing issue with the float. I do a lot of dry camping and want every drop of water I can get into the tank. When I broke down this summer the fact that the fresh water was full and the black tank was empty saved the day.
