The original hitch on my coach had a different design. You would not want to copy that..... It failed with a 4000# trailer and almost tore off. Luckily I saw it before it detached. The design had angle iron framing that has minimal twisting strength no matter how thick it is.
I came up with another solution from some other coaches.
I removed the skid plates that were almost wore through and replaced them with bolt on skid plates along with a hitch that bolted through the skid plate frame.
The tube between the frame is 3 x 5 x 1/4 wall with 2-1/2 reciever. I am guessing it can tow more than it should.....
The bolt holes through the 1/2 skid plate frame were so much easier than I thought using a carbide hole cutter so I ended up getting a set of them.
The skid frame ends were not exactly parallel so some fancy measuring and mock up gave a perfect fit.
