365 front tire wheel change
#1

The coach we are looking at has 22.5 315 tires/wheels and it was recommended to change these to 365 (?) size wheels/tires.  There is supposed to be a Prevost spindle/part that make the process much cheaper/easier.  Will these bigger tires rub on the wheel wells (1998 45')?  I am not sure the coach is overweight but figured since it needs new tires anyway on front it would be a good time to do the whole shebang at once... How much does this cost if not done by Newell?  ie: I will buy everything and have a local shop install everything?

You can call Newell and they will tell you if anything needs to be modified. No modification was required on my 2001 and there is no wheel well rub except in sharp turns where side opposing the turn has a bad dip in the road. In three years, this has happened only once and was no big event. Through the Michelin Advantage program the tires should range between 750 and 850 each and I think the wheels will be about the same. You may find it hard to find the tires.

Newell wants a lot of money for the change over.  Around 10 to 12,000.00 for the change.  I decided that it is a whole cheaper to buy 315 every three years and keep the proper pressure in the tires, and not drive 70 MPH.  I usually drive around 62.  My coach is a 99 and has not had any problem as of yet. The 365 are only wider not larger in dia.

Upgrade from 315/80R22.5 to Michelin XZA 365/70R22.5 per Newell:

Coaches 443 (1997) - 696 (2004) EXCEPT 671, 681 and 685 should only require new wheels and tires.
Coaches 671, 681, 685 and 697-775 require new wheels and tires, wheel hubs and fender modifications. (Steerable tags)
Coaches 776-1229 require new wheels and tires, wheel hubs and body modifications. (P2000i body style)
Coaches beginning with 1230 were built with the 365/70R22.5 tires as standard equipment.

So to answer the question asked, a 1998 would not require new hubs/spindles.  Just buy new wheels and tires.

Tom should be able to give a pretty good estimate of the cost since he replaced his front wheels and tires to upgrade to the 365/70's a few years ago.

Michael, two months ago they told me $10,000.  Lot of money for two tires and wheels?  I believe they have to change out lug bolts also.  Still seems like a lot of money.

I have 315s all around on my coach which weighs around the same as the Newells- if you have deep pockets 10 grand seems a bit much

Thanks Ernie, that is what I kinda thought. My Bird is nearly the same weight and runs 315s all around. I do plan to change them every 5 years and if the Newell ends up weighing quite a bit more then I will change the wheels/tires. I would think I could have it done for under $5k but will find out eventually...

Total cost for my 03 at Newell was $2850 in 2012. That was for tires and wheels and no modification needed. Tire prices fluctuate greatly with oil prices and today they should be less.

i bought the wheels for about a grand or a little less. then i sold the old ones for 4 or 5 hundred, dont remember for sure. the tires through the micheline advantage were under 600 earlier this year. the 365's were actually a few bucks cheaper than the 315's. but harder to find.

so without selling the old wheels, i was 2300 or so and i needed to change my tires anyway, so was probably out about 500 bucks when it was all over.

changing spindles i have not heard at all nor would i ever consider it.
