Jun-Air Compressor

I acquired a Jun-Air 6-25 compressor today which was sold as a Custom Vac Compressor by Den-Tal-EZ with 325 hours on the meter.  There was a plastic bottle of oil attached which spilled, wow, that's some stinky oil!  Is the SJ27 oil that stinky?  I haven't tried to figure out what some of the parts are, I don't need most of them.  The data sheet said there should be 305 seconds from zero pressure to 120 PSI in the 25L tank, it beat that.  Wow, it sure is quiet!  I plan to replace one of the Thomas compressors with the Jun-Air although I haven't done any measurements yet.

Any advice on the Jun-Air? It won't be running much. The only time our compressor runs is when we operate a door, but the Thomas compressor surely annoys the neighbors on the driver side.

Jim,

I don’t know exactly what extras you refer to But if you have the small tank that comes with a Jun air, I recommend find a way to plumb it into the system. It has a really clever knob on the top which drains the tank. I had to remove the pump and tank from it’s packaged skid to put it in the space

The SJ oil is not stinky. I have used the replacement oil on Amazon for years.

Thanks Richard.  The oil in that plastic container was stinky, I haven't had a chance to figure out what the attached hoses etc. are.

Oh that’s a very interesting setup. Looks like an added air dryer/chiller.

It being labeled custom vac, that plastic bottle could contain something that was being vacuumed, aka bodily fluids. Be careful.

Ouch, I didn't see that coming!  I was going to use the Jun-Air hour meter until I saw it was 50Hz, the compressor is 120VAC 60Hz.  I installed the compressor today, quite a difference in noise level compared to the Thomas compressor, neighbors on the drivers side will appreciate that.  I'll use it next week and then change the oil.  Looks like the top is removed and the oil poured out, I suppose you could suck it out?

Just the small top, the fill port. Then use the sight glass on the side to know how much oil to put in.

The vacuum was a dip tube in the tank to suck oil/water out & into that plastic jar.  It was clogged and there was a half cup or thereabouts of water/oil in the tank.  I would have thought the dryer would have done a better job of keeping water out.  The dryer has a fan that blows through it.  I don't know why the oil/water mixture in the jar smelled so bad, all of the other oil in that system smelled normal.  All fittings are BSP, fortunately I had a BSP to NPT adapter to attach to the compressor air line.

What is normal oil consumption for the Jun-Air?  Wondering if I need to add an oil separator to the air output? On edit, I just realized there is an oil/water filter that was attached to the tank which I can use.

My jun-air must need a rebuild I go through a quart about every 6 months, ours has an oil water separator and its a mess to clean. I don't use ours below 30 degrees I read someplace they are not meant for cold operations which leaves Carl out for full time usage.

You're right Jack - "Do not operate compressor at ambient temperatures exceeding 35°C/95°F or falling below 0°C/32°F." That is something I hadn't seen. I may have to switch to the Thomas compressor on hot & cold days. It also says "The compressor oil may be aggressive towards certain gasket materials used in pneumatic equipment. We recommend Teflon, Viton, etc.. Do not use polycarbonate filter bowls." The water separator I have been using is probably polycarbonate. I'll have to mount the Jun-Air filter/separator in the compartment somewhere.
