I looked at some of the deionization systems on the market, a neighbor gave me a water softener which started me on this path. I ended up getting a
Pentair Big Blue 3/4" Housing along with a refillable insert for that cartridge and 1 cubic foot of DI Anion/Cation resin. One cubic foot of resin should be good for about 8 cartridge fills. It's a very simple system, I haven't tried it yet. I would like to get a dedicated hose and have looked at the expandable hoses, they have bad ratings though. Has anyone else gone down this path?

Hmmm, Jim...I've done quite a bit of water filter and DI system building. I'm sure you've seen my videos on the subject.
1cu.ft. won't last too long, so it'll be interesting to see how you like it.
Not sure I'd have any use for an expandable hose since my DI is always run through my PW...unless it's a quick rinse off of the windshield in which case, I use a nice lightweight nylon hose which works great.
Good luck!

I also think a pressure washer is a must. It will reduce the amount of water you use versus a garden hose. My coach came with the CR Spotless DIW-20, and I carry a portable pressure washer. The DIW-20 resin is good for about 300 gallons. My pressure washer uses about 2 gal/min while a garden hose would be at least 10 gal/min. The resin refill runs about $125 plus shipping.

Thanks Rob & Steve. I haven't watched any videos but have seen the CR Spotless and Spotless Water Systems DIW20 which look exactly like two Pentair 20" Big Blue housings and refillable inserts with Anion in one & Cation in the other. I have a local supplier for everything related to water who suggested just one housing with the mixed bed anion/cation resin for portability and should be good for around 150 gallons I can travel with a spare preloaded insert or just a bag of resin, those inserts also have a sediment filter inside. The resin refill for each cartridge is relatively inexpensive when purchased by the 1 cubic foot bag, probably around $25 or less. I can add another housing later if needed.
I have a gas powered pressure washer and water softener to use with the DI here but need to get an electric pressure washer for travelling, suggestions on models?

I use an AR Blue Clean BM2300 that I keep in the coach. It's quiet, portable and fits nicely in the storage tray. It comes with a cart, but I don't use it since it stores better without it. One nice feature is that it has a Total Stop System which shuts off power when the trigger is released. This extends pump life and you only hear it running when the trigger is pulled. I've found with most all pressure washers, you can upgrade the spray gun, wand extensions, nozzles, quick connects, etc. to meet your needs. If you want to "Newell" it, look at Mosmatic pressure washer components.

Yeah Jim, I did a ton of research; watched and read a lot of reviews and long-term usage reports and this is the one that rose to the top in every situation. The ACTIVE 2.0. Obviously, at it's price point, it's Chinese, but it does exactly what we need for pressure washing a vehicle. At $350, it's about $1,000 less than the undisputed top of the game Kranzle alternative!

My Activ 2.0 died just before we moved. I was so frustrated, I pitched it and bought a Kranzle 120v unit from Obsessed garage. Still in the box along with Steve's softener kit. I will get to using it hopefully before I die!

The whole DI project started when my neighbor wanted me to remove his softener, I had no thoughts prior. I have an account at a major supplier of RO, Softeners, DI, etc. so I just went and asked what to do with the softener and add DI. They sent me down the road I've told about, I'm ready to try the system out when the weather cooperates. I haven't approached them about a tiny water softener yet. I won't need a small pressure washer for a few months so I'm all ears about that. I carry so much stuff, hoses, 50A wire, parts, etc. there's not much space.

I agree with you Jim. There's so much stuff to carry and not enough space. When we bought our coach, I thought "Wow! What a ton of compartments that I will never use up!" Now I pile stuff over stuff... The softener and DI/pumps all stay behind. (One of the reasons I haven't set them up yet)
