Starlink Mini Installed Inside the Winegard In-Motion Dome
#21

Tried out the Mini sitting on the dash of my Buick. Used the adapter and 8' 16 gauge cable I linked above. The PD usb-c adapter puts out up to 100 watts at 20 vdc. Mini worked great sitting on dash. So that's a workable solution without needing a buck-boost converter.

Forrest we just got the mini in 2 days ago but its been raining and I haven't hooked it up yet so if I mount this on the roof of the the bus it should be fine without worrying about pointing north?

From what I've seen and read about it doesn't have to be pointed in any specific direction. Once it's working you can look at the alignment in the app and it'll tell you if it's aligned or not. Has a box to show alignment. But it should work out of alignment or even tilted the wrong way. When I first turned mine on it was pointed 90º or so in wrong direction and about 45º tilted away from the satellite path.
It worked, downloaded update but speed was only about 25 mbps download. I aligned it and was over 100 mbps. So it should work but speed will be impacted.

Awesome Jim! I've read about people mounting the mini in a Pelican or Apache case and putting it outside and it works, with the lid closed. I'm curious if it'll work inside shooting through a fiberglass roof in my Monaco. Won't be able to test it until May though. It'll get a good testing this summer going to Alaska.

I plan to cut the motion out of my gen 2 dishie so it can be flat mounted like Richard did. One thing I hadn't considered was the need for one on the camper at the same time as one on the UTV while off-roading. It would be crazy to break down in the boonies without communications. We frequently are out of cellular coverage in the camper and the UTV when boondocking. I wouldn't normally have the Starlink connected on the UTV, just in a bag for just in case.

Jim that speed is better than I'm getting with my gen 1, when we first got it I was getting close to 200mb speed but now its 100 or less with a clear view of the sky maybe they throttled me back for all our usage anyway we are happy with what we have so if its better I'm good with that.
