Steve the growatt has never given me an issue but I did have to do a firmware update since its been installed but it was pretty straight forward. I am very fond of them, you can't change any of the setting from the wifi dongle but I haven't had any need to do so as it just does the job.
Glen You have my attention, I do not know of these settings are they buried in the configuration? I have used the virtual switch to ignore the grid when power usage is over 1000w and reconnect to the grid if over 4000 watts but it causes the inverter contactor to cycle far to often for my taste and I worry about the millisecond drop of power to the load, it causes tv to blink and also the inverter heat pump to make a noise. If we lived in a place where you could back feed the grid that would be the answer it would pump as much as you have back to the grid running the meter backwards till you need the load then it would consume as much as you need. Hope this makes sense.
Simon I have the advanced setting of solar priority selected and the float volage set at .2 volts below absorption and its not worth a hoot. Yes I can and have set my shore power limit to 9.2 amps (lowest possible by victron) and yes it will work but still 9.2a at 240v is 2200w so my LG 2 ton 3 zone inverter HVAC when close to setpoint will not reach 2200w and even if it did go to max 2900w there is only 700w of solar being used out of the 4000w on the roof. I can set to inverter only which will do the job and ignore the grid but I do not have lithium in the bus yet but going to make the conversion when I get home so my agm batteries are only good for 5,500w of usage (11,040w X 50% usage) so at night if your if you forget to turn on the charger it will drain the batteries PDQ. My point is Victron is great for boondocking and off grid system but doesn't stand up to Growatt with one simple setting of SOLAR PRIORITY FIRST, it uses solar as long as its available and then goes to the grid when not. Growatt has 3 options on the very first setting, Solar first, UPS, or Solar Battery then grid.
In short the campground we just left charged 16 cents per kilowatt, our bill the 1st month was $99 our second month was $124, 3rd month was $180 and our 4th and last month was $125. Now we did have some bad weather and had to run more equipment than normal but with the Growatt this bill would have a fraction of what we paid.
